All you need for a Project is Tasks, Sub-Tasks and Milestones. You don't need a Masters degree to set it up. Assign Tasks to Managers and keep updated on their prpductivity so they are actually working on them.
Optional Client Approval tasks if required to give your Client more control.

"How is that Project coming along.." Instead of rushing around asking everyone you can generate a report for your client in a few clicks.
Send them over a PDF with all the tasks and statuses to show exactly where the project is.

Keep scope creep in the closet by assigning a budget to a Project so when the tasks are done, they are done. You and your Client will know how much time is available for additional work without any awkward questions.
